Scott Hoover Wilder Obituary

Scott H. Wilder

Scott H. Wilder, 53, of Westport, (known by many as Hoover), passed away unexpectedly of complications following surgery on January 25th. He was the son
of Nancy C. and the late Milo W. Wilder.

Scott was born December 10, 1954 in Norwalk and has been a resident of Westport for the last 50 years. He is a 1973 graduate of Staples High School where he played on the basketball and golf teams. He then attended Babson College for one year before suffering an automobile accident that left him as a quadriplegic. He was a tremendous sports enthusiast all his life, especially supporting the New York Yankees and the New York Giants.  Over the years he held various part-time jobs.

Having lived always on the border of Longshore Country Club, it played a huge part in his life: first as a caddy, then as an avid golfer, next working as a ranger, and over the last many years in his wheel chair, socializing and enjoying watching his friends play golf. He shared a special bond with a fabulous network of friends, which often stayed connected through him. Over the years his friends would come back with their children, and the kids would soon become his friends as well, staying in touch with him on their own.

Survivors, in addition to his mother include: his brother, Sandy Wilder and his wife Annie, of St. Louis, MO, and their children and step children: Duncan and Holly Wilder, and Katharine, Laurie and Doug Burgdorff.

Scott will be dearly missed by his family, friends and by the people whose lives he touched. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, February 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at the Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road East, Westport, CT 06880.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Scott can be made to The Obie Harrington-Howes Foundation, which is dedicated to maintaining and improving the quality of life by providing financial aid to individuals with spinal cord injuries. Donations can be made at www.ohhf.org or at:
